Tour Overview

The seven churches of Revelation were seven real congregations in seven real cities, all within 300 kilometres of each other on the Aegean coast of Asia Minor. This route visits all seven in the order the geography suggests, then adds the sites that make the region legible — Ephesus, Aphrodisias, Hierapolis and the House of the Virgin Mary.

The tour is built for travellers reading the letters to the churches with the places in front of them. Each stop gets enough time to walk the site and hear what the first-century congregation would have seen, which is why the route runs eight days rather than five.

It suits church groups, individual travellers interested in early Christian history, and anyone who wants the Aegean and its interior properly covered. The pace includes a full rest day at Kuşadası, because eight days of ruins without a break is too much for most groups.

When To Travel

April to June and September to October are the best months for this route: 18–27°C across the Aegean and its interior, dry ground at the open-air sites, and comfortable walking through Sardis, Laodicea and Aphrodisias. July and August reach 35–38°C inland with almost no shade at Laodicea and Aphrodisias — the route then starts earlier and keeps the middle of the day indoors. Winter is quiet and cool at 8–15°C, with occasional rain that makes the marble at Ephesus slippery, but the sites are at their emptiest. Easter week fills the Aegean hotels months in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all seven churches of Revelation covered?

Yes — Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamon, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. Smyrna is visited in İzmir on day three, and the order follows the geography so no day doubles back.

Is this tour suitable for a church group?

It is built for one. The guide covers the first-century context of each letter, the pace allows time for reading on site, and the Kuşadası rest day can be replaced with a Sunday service at the Ephesus church if you tell us in advance.

How much walking is involved?

Between two and four kilometres a day across uneven stone and marble. Ephesus and Aphrodisias are the longest walks; Sardis and Thyatira are short and level. Comfortable shoes matter more than fitness.

Is the rest day necessary?

It is deliberate. Eight consecutive days of archaeological sites is more than most groups manage well. If you would rather use the day, we can substitute Miletus, Priene or Didyma — all within an hour of Kuşadası.

Can the tour start from İzmir instead of Istanbul?

Yes. Some groups fly directly into İzmir and join on day three, dropping the two Istanbul days. Tell us at booking and the price is adjusted accordingly.
