Traditional Turkish Bath
Four Centuries of Steam and Marble
This is a reserved session at a restored Ottoman hammam in Istanbul, with a full kese scrub, an olive-oil soap massage, towels and private transfers included. The visit takes about 90 minutes and costs €60 per person.
The Turkish bath was not a spa invented for visitors — it was the neighbourhood's washhouse, hospital and social club for four centuries, and the architecture was built around steam rather than comfort. The sequence has not changed: heat, scrub, rinse, rest.

About This Experience
The Turkish bath is not a spa treatment invented for visitors — it was the neighbourhood's washhouse, hospital and social club for four centuries, and the architecture was built around steam rather than around comfort. The sequence has not changed: heat, scrub, rinse, rest.
This booking reserves a slot at a restored Ottoman hammam with same-gender attendants, so there is no waiting and no improvised version of the ritual. It suits travellers who want the real thing rather than a hotel spa, and anyone who has walked the Old City all morning and wants the afternoon off their feet.

When To Go
A hammam is entirely indoor and heated, so it works in any month — and it is at its best in winter, when the steam and the hot marble are a relief rather than a test. July and August are still fine, but book the late afternoon slot rather than midday. Ramadan changes the rhythm of some traditional bathhouses, which close until after sunset; the restored tourist-facing ones stay open. Friday afternoons are the busiest.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the bath mixed or single-sex?
Single-sex. Men and women use separate sections with same-gender attendants throughout. Couples who want to stay together should book a private family section, which we arrange on request.
What should I bring?
Nothing. Towels, the pestemal wrap and slippers are provided, as are lockers for your belongings. Bring only a swimsuit if you prefer to wear one under the wrap.
How long does the whole visit take?
Around 90 minutes: 20 minutes in the steam room, 20 for the scrub and massage, and the rest resting in the cool room with tea. Transfers add about 30 minutes each way.
Is it suitable for children or elderly guests?
Children over 12 and most elderly guests manage it well. The heat is intense for anyone with low blood pressure, heart conditions or pregnancy — tell us at booking and we book a shorter, cooler session instead.
Do I need to book a time?
Yes. This booking reserves a specific slot, which is why there is no queue. Walk-in guests at the same bathhouse typically wait 30 to 60 minutes in summer.
