Tour Overview

The seven churches of Revelation sit within 300 kilometres of each other on the Aegean coast of Asia Minor, which is what makes a three-day route possible at all. This itinerary visits all seven in the order the geography suggests, running north to south, then west to Ephesus.

It is a compressed version of our eight-day biblical tour: the sites are the same, the context the guide provides is the same, and what is removed is the Istanbul prelude, the rest day and Aphrodisias. It suits travellers with three days and a specific interest.

The tour is private, the vehicle is yours, and the guide adjusts the pace. Groups with a particular interest in one city — Pergamon or Ephesus, usually — spend longer there and shorten another stop.

When To Travel

April to June and September to October give the best conditions for this route: 18–27°C, dry stone underfoot at Sardis and Laodicea, and comfortable walking at Ephesus and Pergamon. July and August reach 35–38°C inland with almost no shade — the route then starts earlier each morning. Winter is quiet and cool at 8–15°C, with occasional rain that makes the marble at Ephesus slippery, but the sites are at their emptiest and the hotels are cheaper. Easter week fills the Aegean hotels months in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all seven churches really covered in three days?

Yes. Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamon, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea are all on the route, in geographical order. Day one is long — five of the seven — because they sit close together inland.

How does this compare with the eight-day biblical tour?

The sites are the same. The eight-day version adds two Istanbul days, a rest day at Kuşadası, Aphrodisias and a slower pace overall. This tour is for travellers with three days and a specific interest.

Is day one too long?

It runs about fourteen hours including the flight, and ends at the hotel around 20:30. It is the price of fitting five churches into the first day. Groups that prefer a gentler pace drop Thyatira or Philadelphia, or add a night.

Is this tour suitable for a church group?

Yes, and it is often booked by one. The guide covers the first-century context of each letter, and time can be set aside for reading on site. Tell us at booking if the group has a leader who wants to speak at particular stops.

Can the tour start from İzmir instead of Istanbul?

Yes. Groups already in İzmir join on day one at the airport, and the domestic flights are removed from the price. Tell us at booking.
