ITINERARY
What You'll Experience
Start on the European shore at Dolmabahçe, the 600-metre marble palace built for Sultan Abdülmecid between 1843 and 1856. On Mondays, when Dolmabahçe is closed, the route starts at Beylerbeyi on the Asian side instead — the two palaces share a family and an architect.
Cross the Bosphorus Bridge to the Asian side. Çamlıca Mosque, completed in 2019, is the largest in Turkey; the hill beside it is the highest point in the city, with the Marmara Sea, the islands and both continents in one view.
A village inside the city: wooden houses, a synagogue, a Greek church and a mosque on the same street. Lunch at a local restaurant, then a walk along İcadiye Street toward the Bosphorus.
Back across the bridge to the historic Jewish quarter on the Golden Horn. Colourful timber houses, the Ahrida Synagogue, the Bulgarian St Stephen Church and the steep streets that have appeared in more films than any other Istanbul neighbourhood.
A Bulgarian Orthodox church prefabricated in Vienna in 1871 and shipped down the Danube in 500 pieces. It is built entirely of cast iron — one of very few such churches in the world.
The cable car climbs to the café named after the French novelist who lived in Istanbul and wrote about this view. From the top, the Golden Horn curves below with the Old City on one side and Eyüp on the other.
Hotel drop-off: 17:45
Tour Overview
Istanbul is the only city in the world that sits on two continents, and most tours mention it without doing anything with it. This route crosses the Bosphorus twice — Europe to Asia in the morning, Asia back to Europe after lunch — and uses each crossing as a change of subject rather than a transfer.
The European half is imperial and historic: Dolmabahçe, Balat, St Stephen, the Golden Horn. The Asian half is residential and panoramic: Çamlıca, Kuzguncuk, the highest viewpoint in the city. The contrast is the point.
The tour suits first-time visitors who want more than the Old City, and travellers with three or more days in Istanbul who want the shape of the whole city in one day.

When To Travel
April to June and September to October are ideal: 16–25°C, clear days for the Çamlıca and Pierre Loti viewpoints, and comfortable walking in Balat. July and August reach 33°C and the Balat streets hold the heat; the route then adds an indoor break at the palace and finishes at Pierre Loti after 17:00 when the hill cools. November to March is quiet at 6–12°C, with occasional rain — the cobbled streets of Balat are slippery when wet, so bring proper shoes.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many times do we cross the Bosphorus?
Twice: Europe to Asia in the morning for Çamlıca and Kuzguncuk, then Asia back to Europe after lunch for Balat and Pierre Loti. Both crossings are by private vehicle over the bridge, roughly 20 minutes each.
Which palace do we visit?
Dolmabahçe Palace by default. On Mondays, when it is closed, the route starts at Beylerbeyi Palace on the Asian side instead — same dynasty, same period, and the crossing order is reversed.
Is this tour too long for one day?
It runs about eight hours with a lunch break, and the vehicle covers all transfers between stops. Groups that want a slower pace drop one of the two palaces or the cable car — tell us at booking.
Is the cable car always running?
Almost always — it runs every 10 minutes from 08:00. In the rare case of maintenance, the climb to Pierre Loti is made by vehicle instead, and the ticket is refunded.
Can we add the Chora Mosque?
Yes, it fits between Balat and St Stephen Church, and adds about 40 minutes. Note that Chora is periodically closed for restoration; we confirm its status the week before your tour.
