ITINERARY
What You'll Experience
Hotel pickup in Istanbul and a 70-minute flight to İzmir. Your guide meets you at arrivals; the drive to Ephesus takes about an hour. Enter through the Magnesia Gate and walk the marble street to the Library of Celsus, then the Great Theatre.
The two hillside terraces where Ephesus's wealthiest families lived, excavated and roofed since 2000 — frescoed walls and floor mosaics still in place. Lunch at a local restaurant is included.
The chapel on Mount Koressos, accepted since the 19th century as the house where Mary lived her last years. Then the single remaining column of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders. Overnight in Selçuk or Kuşadası.
Drive inland to Pamukkale, then the white calcium terraces that give the site its Turkish name, "cotton castle". Walk the marked boardwalks and the shallow pools — the travertines are protected and swimming outside designated areas is not permitted.
The Roman spa city built above the springs: the 12,000-seat theatre, the Temple of Apollo over the fault line, and the necropolis with more than 1,200 tombs. Lunch at a local restaurant, then optional time in Cleopatra's Antique Pool.
Transfer to Denizli airport for the evening flight to Istanbul, then hotel drop-off. Flight schedules vary; some evenings land closer to 20:00, others near 21:00.
Hotel drop-off in Istanbul: 21:00
Tour Overview
Ephesus and Pamukkale sit inland from the Aegean coast, about three hours apart. Linking them in two days is only worth doing as a private tour, because the schedule depends on flights — and a private vehicle absorbs the gaps that would otherwise cost half a day in an airport lounge.
The tour suits travellers with two free days in Istanbul who want the Aegean sites without committing to a longer package. It is the same ground as our four-day Turkey tour, compressed to the two days that matter most.

When To Travel
April to June and September to October are the best months: 18–27°C, dry marble at Ephesus and comfortable walking across the Pamukkale terraces. July and August reach 35–38°C in the Denizli valley with almost no shade — the route then visits the terraces early and spends the hottest hours at Hierapolis and lunch. Winter is quiet and cool at 8–15°C, with occasional rain that makes the marble slippery; the sites are at their emptiest and most atmospheric then.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do we stay overnight?
In Selçuk or Kuşadası, chosen for the drive time to Pamukkale the next morning. Hotel accommodation is not included in the price — we book it for you at cost and add it to your invoice.
How is this different from the small group version?
The vehicle, the guide and the pace are private to your group, both lunches are included, and the route can be changed as you go — Şirince can be added on day one, for example. The small group tour runs the same sites on a fixed schedule with up to 12 guests and costs less.
Are the flights included?
Yes. The flight from Istanbul to İzmir and the return flight from Denizli to Istanbul are both included, along with all airport transfers in both regions.
Is the Terrace Houses visit included?
Yes, and it is the part of Ephesus most tours skip because it needs a separate ticket. The roofed excavation and the floor mosaics are the best-preserved Roman domestic interiors in Anatolia.
Can we add Cappadocia?
Yes — that becomes our four-day Turkey tour, which covers Cappadocia, Ephesus and Pamukkale with three flights. Ask at booking and we quote the difference.
