Pamukkale Region

Walk barefoot across dazzling white mineral terraces and explore the majestic ruins of an ancient Roman spa city.

THE COTTON CASTLE

Known as the Cotton Castle, Pamukkale is one of Turkey’s most extraordinary natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its dazzling white travertine terraces, formed by mineral rich thermal waters flowing down the hillside, create a landscape unlike anywhere else in the world. At the top of the terraces lies the ancient city of Hierapolis, a remarkably preserved Roman spa center where emperors once sought relaxation and healing.

The best time to visit Pamukkale is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October). The moderate temperatures make walking barefoot on the reflective white terraces and exploring the exposed ruins of Hierapolis very comfortable, completely avoiding the intense heat of the mid summer months.
